Brett McFadden- Update on NUHS during pandemic
The impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic has been felt by every member of our community, but possible hardest hit are the youth, with most face-to-face schooling suspended, activities halted, and no certainty for when life can return to something like it was before the Pandemic. In our program this Thursday, we will hear from Brett McFadden, who will update us on the current status in Nevada County schools.
Brett W. McFadden was appointed superintendent for the Nevada Joint Union High School District (NJUHSD) effective July 1, 2018. With more than 25 years of education policy and leadership experience, Brett is recognized statewide for his expertise in school finance, governance, and effective administration and leadership of TK - Adult instructional programs.
When the COVID pandemic shutdown our community in March 2020, Nevada Union shifted to "distance learning." Brett sought ways to accommodate limitations of internet availability throughout our county, food distributions, and many other considerations.
Our Club has done so much over the years to support education and youth programs -- all of which have been curtailed this year. We hope to be able to resume all our youth-related programs very soon.

Canned Food Drive and Restaurant Raffle - Saturday February 13
Grocery Outlet delivered the 1,800 can pallet of vegetables to the Food Bank last week. The Union joined Nicole McNeeley when she thanked Nevada CIty Rotary for our donation and talked about our Food Drive this coming Saturday February 13. See Helping one another: Rotary Club to host food drive for Food Bank of Nevada County. “This is a lot, this will make a huge impact in the community, McNeely said to the group of Rotarians, adding that the donation would help feed families for a month’s worth of drive-thru distributions."
On Saturday, we will take the next step in our support of the Food Bank and those in need in our community with our canned food drive-through drop-off. The weather forecast is a bit iffy for Saturday afternoon, with a possibility of some rain, but we will not let that deter us. Please wear your mask, maintain safe social distancing and join us. We will set up between 12:00pm - 1:00pm and open for donations between 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
We will be drawing the original 2020 tickets! We have all of the drawing stubs for tickets purchased for March 2020 and will be selling the remainder of these same tickets! If you are holding unsold raffle tickets, or want to buy or sell additional raffle tickets, please contact Robin. Ticket inquiries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. And yes! We are getting requests for raffle tickets!
A maximum of 100 tickets will be sold for our Winner Takes All Drawing for 12 fabulous local restaurants!
