Dear Rotarians and Friends,
THIS WEEK - NOON MEETING for MUSIC CONTEST!!!
Is it time yet? Is it time yet? I feel like a kid waiting for Santa. This Thursday is one of my favorite times in Rotary - the Club Music Contest. The other is the Speech Contest as you probably know by now. I just love to see these young adults showcasing their awesome talent; and with such poise and confidence. I'm definitely jealous. There is no way I could have done that at their age - I couldn't even do it now and you definitely wouldn't want me to try playing the piano or any other instrument. Gayle Denney has done a great job putting this event together and has a stellar team of judges, timekeeper and teller. Now, this is your opportunity to turn out to support these talented, young musicians.
Good things come to those who wait. Our club waited several months after being introduced to John Wilson and his wife Susie Monary-Wilson to have them become members. It was worth the wait. Wow, talk about good things!! They were officially inducted on Thursday, January 25th but they have already become a part of our club. Susie signed up to bring snacks for Girls Who Code already. If you haven't gotten a chance to welcome them to the Club, make a point to sit by them at a meeting and let them know how happy you are they chose to join our Rotary Club. I think they will definitely be: Rotarians - Making a Difference.
Sponsor Carolyn Feuille, John Wilson, Susie Monary-Wilson, AG Dennis Geare and Pres Cathy Wilcox-Barnes.

On Tuesday, January 30th we are partnering with KVMR to present another Community Forum focusing on secondary education options in Nevada County. It is sure to be an evening of interest to all, whether you have children or grandchildren in that age group or not. Education has changed a lot since most of us were in high school and it's always good to keep up on new trends. The Board and the club members felt this Forum is a great way to serve our Youth and support our local radio program. So let's support it through attendance along with our financial support.
Area Wide Special Event - Nevada County Fairgrounds

Club Leadership Assembly - Saturday April 7 The Nugget
In April we have our District Wide Club Leadership Assembly at the Nugget in Sparks. A day of learning, sharing and strategizing for a quick launch of off our new Rotary year. For newer members, Club Leadership Assembly is a great way to learn more about Rotary and to meet Rotarians from across our District. For Club Committee Chairs and Board Members, Assembly is a great way to develop new skills and insights especially about your role/committee, to exchange creative ideas about what other Clubs are doing to revitalize and make a difference, and to strategize as a team in a setting that is looking ahead to the coming year. Look for more information on this year's Assembly soon.
SAVE THE DATES: April 19 - 24 Los Barriles Clean Water Project
Also plan to join the team going to Los Barriles April 19-24. We always have fun while participating in life-changing projects Chris Geyer and John Hensley spearhead. Carolyn Feuille will be providing more information as the date gets closer.
Our work in the Los Barilles area of Baja Sur, Mexico for school dormitories is complete. Next we’ll be helping with the clean water project and maybe cleaning a community park in Los Barilles. Details coming in January.
We will plan to depart on April 19, work on April 20-22 and play on April 23, return home on the 23rd or 24th.
This is a low-cost, fun and very rewarding service project that is well organized and just needs you. Yes, YOU!
Treats and Hosts for Girls Who Code
Nancy Kemp is taking over coordination of hosts and refreshments and now has the signup form. This year's program continues through the Spring and we have openings for you if you are looking to treat yourself by treating the girls to refreshments one or more times this winter and spring. It is a fabulous way for you to be personally involved supporting the program. The girls certainly appreciate the snacks ~ it is good to offer something sweet, something salty, including something filling. Old reliables include chips, granola bars, juice drinks, cupcakes, pretzels, brownies, bagels, etc. If you have not signed up for a slot, please contact Nancy. Many thanks to those who volunteer to bring snacks!
GWC club meets in the library at Seven Hills Middle School, starting at 3:30 pm on Tuesdays. When bringing snacks, please arrive by 4:15 for 4:30 serving. Snacks are served in the covered patio just outside the library, while the weather stays fair, and in the Teacher’s Lounge when the weather turns foul. Seven Hills Middle School is at 700 Hoover Lane, opposite SPD Market off the far end of Brock Rd. From the main parking lot, go through the open hallway past the central office. The library and patio are just outside the hallway.
