Last week’s program speaker, Cheryl Wicks, Founder & Director of Sammie’s Friends, gave us the highlights of the journey the organization has taken in order to take over the Nevada Co Animal Shelter. Sammie’s Friends is a non-profit, founded to provide veterinary aid and shelter for unwanted animals in our county, and the stories are touching. Thanks to Dixie Redfearn for hosting this program and for volunteering at Sammie’s Friends!
Another scholarship recipient, Laurie Cassidy, was present to receive her check. She is a recent Nevada Union graduate and plans to major in psychology at San Luis Obispo – Questa beginning in the fall.
Thanks to Larry Undercoffer for volunteering to lead a work party to paint our Fair Booth. Also, the sign-up sheet for August 11-15 has now begun to make the rounds for volunteers. The Fair Booth is one of the two events of the club where every member is expected to participate -- or pay a hefty fine! Remember that we all need to fill two slots -- or pay a hefty fine! But you can certainly have family and/or friends help with your shifts.
Did you notice the new column name? Well, not only do I have a name but I got the bell back ... in a solid chunk of ice! I tried ringing it during the meeting, but only succeeded in chipping away some of the ice. Thomas A. Coleman promised to be the bell protector while it thaws out and promised in front of witnesses to produce it at the next meeting.
The August 5th meeting has been moved to 5:30 at the Fairgrounds, in front of our Booth. Please bring either a salad or a dessert, your choice of beverage, and your families! The pulled pork sandwiches will be provided, but we are requesting a donation for the Sierra College Foster Youth Backpacks -- we'll have more details at today's meeting. Also, remember to bring decorations for your table for the theme, Rooted in Tree-dition, because we will have judges.
And don’t forget about the River Cats game on August 1st. Our club will subsidize the bus transportation, with extra seats going to members of other Rotary clubs in order to fill it up (the more, the merrier!). So if you want to go, tell John immediately!
We have lots going on, so Happy Rotary-ing!
