Another excellent turnout for the Annual Children's Festival held last Friday at Pioneer Park.
Eleanor's Mysterious Column

In order not to leave a blank, we’ll have ballots ready this week so that the Club can finally name this column! I may be bell-less, but I don’t want to be nameless, too!

It’s always a privilege to have a young person at our meeting in order to receive a scholarship. Heidi Van Der Wende, a recent Nevada Union High School grad and an incoming freshman at Brigham Young University - Hawaii, was introduced and given her check. Thanks to Treasurer and pP Ellen Davis and all the other members of the Scholarship Committee for their time and efforts in choosing such great recipients!

Secretary and pP David Kenitzer presented our program on Facebook 101, teaching us the whens, whats, wheres and hows so that we can access and use our Club Facebook page. I thought I might be the only one who needed the help, but there were so many questions that David didn’t really have enough time to finish his presentation! We may need a Facebook 102...

The Children's Festival was a great success last Friday. Thanks to those of you who volunteered to setup, staff craft booths, and clean-up. If my grandson Aedan's reaction was any indication, the children had a blast!

John Hazelwood is hoping to have all sign-ups and money in this week for the River Cats game on August 1st. Our club will subsidize the bus transportation, with extra seats going to members of other clubs in order to fill it up (the more, the merrier!). So if you want to go, tell John immediately! The River Cats game is a family outing and is always lots of fun. It's also a time to visit with Rotarians within our club, within our District, and even with those in District 5180 (Sacramento area). But if you need another excuse, proceeds benefit Polio Plus.

Have you saved some time during the week of August 11-15 in order to work in our Fair Booth? The Fair Booth is one of the two events of the club where every member is expected to participate -- or pay a hefty fine! During these five days, we will be cooking, preparing, and selling pulled pork and BBQ beef sandwiches. Please sign-up for at least one shift. We’ll have sign-ups at the meetings, so get there first so that you can get the slots that you want!

Are we having fun yet???

CHILDRENS FESTIVAL: pP Nancy Kemp helps Aedan make a wood plaque necklace. President Eleanor and Aedan pose next to the (in)famous fire-breathing dragon.

• David Levin (Classification: Community Radio) has been proposed as a New Member by Karen Young. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this candidate, please contact President Eleanor or Membership Chair Walt Stickel.
On Saturday, July 24th, the District will be holding a Foundation Seminar and a Youth Services Seminar (concurrently) at the Atlantis Resort in Reno. Talk to pP David Kenitzer for more details.
Save the Date! Our first fundraiser of the Rotary Year is the Fair Booth, where we sell pulled pork and BBQ beef sandwiches. The Nevada County Fair runs from August 11 - 15. Watch for the sign-up sheet being passed around today's meeting.
We will be holding a Fundraising Brainstorming Session to discuss the Club's next major fundraiser. It will be held at pP Nancy Kemp's house on Wednesday, July 28th at 5:30pm and will be a potluck dinner meeting, so bring a dish and your own beverage. Please RSVP to Nancy or Michael Colantuono and be sure to tell them what you're cooking!
