Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
Meeting weekly helps members keep in touch with each other and organize club projects. In addition, frequent complementary activities are planned to strengthen the club, including holiday parties, a president demotion party, fundraisers and special events. We meet weekly for lunch at the National Hotel except for the first Thursday of each month. Our 1st Thursday Merchant Social is at 5:30pm at the Bar in the National. During the relaxed "mixer format" each week a local merchant is highlighted.
One of the most exciting fundraiser events is the club's annual auction "Adventures and Wine", which is derived from the previous "Radio Auction". Members of the club collect donated items and services and hold party to auction everything off. Last year's auction was a tremendous success with over $12,000 in proceeds. Our underlining theme is "Focus on Youth" and all of the proceeds from the event are used to support key educational and leadership development activities for the youth in our community, including college scholarships.
Another fundraiser is the Nevada City Rotary Food Booth at the Nevada County Fair. Our club built the fairbooth in the early eighties and originally sold Jalapeno Poppers. After several menu changes, we now serve pulled-pork sandwiches and meatball sandwiches and will soon bring a Vegi Wrap to the lineup. There is no other event in our Club that brings members closer together. It is a social fundraising event in all aspects.
